Carla Goldberg
Parent-Toddler & Pre-School Director
I teach:
Parent-Tot. I have been at Akiba-Schechter since:
1991 Education/degrees:
B.A. in Early Childhood Education, University of Massachusetts
M.A. in Early Childhood Education for Leadership and Advocacy, National Louis University
Kohl/McCormick Early Childhood Teaching Award, 2000
I like to teach because:
Parent-Tot is a parent and child’s first experience at school. I love getting to know all of our incoming families in my classroom. I am able to show parents what it means to "learn through play" and how to interact with their child in many meaningful ways. I am able to create a special bond with children and help them gain self-confidence in a classroom environment. I love to sing and dance, and utilize these skills in the classroom. My favorite part of teaching is:
Building relationships with children and watching them become comfortable in a classroom. It is a joy to watch a child feel successful and to see him/her grow and blossom throughout the year. I became a teacher because:
I knew I could make a difference in a child’s life. I love working with children and know that providing an exceptional early childhood experience will stay with him/her for a lifetime. Teaching young children, we can create lifelong learners who love going to school. I'm known by my students for:
Always singing - I have a song for any activity that we are doing or I make one up! When I'm not teaching, I
Spend time with my family. I have two children who are in the grades now at Akiba-Schechter. We love to explore Chicago, go to the art museums and Millenium Park, or to the beach. We also love to travel and go camping. I love to read and am often found with my nose in a good book.
