Registration is first come, first served. Unless otherwise noted, all classes are from 3:30pm to 4:30pm. Classes will not meet when there is an early dismissal or while school is not in session.
CircEsteem(NEW!)
CircEsteem is a unique and exciting program that gives kids the opportunity to “clown around”, while developing balance, flexibility and hand-eye coordination. Students in CircEsteem will be introduced to a variety of skills including: juggling, plate spinning, globe walking, tight-wire walking and much more! Parents will be treated to a circus show at the end of the season. For more information go to www.circesteem.org.

Fencing
Students learn basic fencing skills including footwork, bladework, tactics, strategies, rules, etiquette and safety. They can expect to play games, learn skills, perform drills and fence actual bouts during club time in a fun and safe environment.

Chug Ivrit (Hebrew Club)
Join Adi and Sara, our intrepid B’Not Sherut, for a fun and interactive way to experience Hebrew. Children will learn while playing, singing, dancing and hearing stories.
Days: Tuesdays, 01/03 – 04/03

Students: minimum 6 students, ages 2-5

Cadet Orchestra
The Cadet Orchestra performs at Akiba-Schechter events and celebrations. This string orchestra is for students with zero or one year of orchestra experience (at the discretion of the director). Participants learn how to pluck, play with the bow, use their left-hand fingers to make different notes, read music and play songs in a group setting. Students need to supply their own instruments. Private or semi-private lessons are recommended.

Chess
We are teaming up with CheckMates Chess Academy to offer an after-school chess club. Students will explore tactics such as thinking ahead, correct positioning and controlling. Participants will learn new strategies as well as ways to apply them to their everyday lives. Materials provided.
Days: Wednesdays, 01/04 – 03/28

Students: 8 students in grades 1-6
Cost: $150 (for 13 classes)
Aerobic Fitness (NEW!)
Join Mrs. Price in a fun and eclectic aerobic exercise class. Combining elements of step aerobics, cardio-kickboxing, Latin grooves and hip-hop, this class will work on developing cardiovascular fitness, muscular strength, endurance and flexibility.

Varsity Orchestra
The Varsity Orchestra performs at many Akiba-Schechter events and celebrations. This string orchestra is for students with at least one year of orchestra experience (at the discretion of the director). Students will play more challenging pieces while improving their technical and ensemble skills. Students need to supply their own instruments. Private or semi-private lessons are recommended.

Babysitters’ Training (NEW!)
This Red-Cross course gives youths the knowledge and confidence to care for infants and school-age children. Combining video, activities, hands-on skills training and discussion for a complete learning experience. Babysitters’ Training teaches youth how to respond to emergencies and illness with first aid, rescue breathing and other appropriate care; make decisions under pressure; communicate with parents to learn household rules; recognize safety and hygiene issues; manage young children; feed, diaper and care for infants; and child and infant CPR and First Aid. Days: Thursdays, 01/05 – 03/29

Students: 4 minimum, 12 maximum in grades 5-8, but only those 11 years of age or older on the last day of class will be certified by the Red Cross

Origami
Discover how much fun and creativity a simple square sheet of paper can hold! Students will learn simple folding methods and techniques by making and decorating an amazing array of boxes, creatures, flowers, and clever action models. This ancient art form provides hours of enjoyment, while developing focus, concentration, and spatial understanding.

Homework Help
For those students who wish to complete their homework in school and receive assistance, staff is available to help.
Days: Mondays through Thursdays, until 05/31/12

Cost: $225 for the remainder of the school year ($5/day to drop in)
Kids’ Club
A safe and engaging environment is provided for those younger students who stay later. Snacks are provided.
